In short: as of October 2026, Uzbekistan has 14 driving exam centres, one for each region, Tashkent city and Karakalpakstan. They all follow the same rules and prices, and booking and payment are done through cabinet.yim.uz. Many centres are outside town, so if you live in a district, plan the journey in advance and aim to take theory and the practical test in one trip.

How the system works

Since 2022, driving candidates have taken their theory and practical tests at automated exam centres rather than with traffic police examiners. This followed a presidential decision of 7 December 2020 that allowed private businesses to run the exams. The centres are operated by Autodriver Study LLC, and the first one opened in Tashkent on 3 February 2022. Centres then opened across the regions. The latest, Termez and Urgench, were added to the booking system in November 2025.

What's the same at every centre:

  • Theory: 20 questions in 25 minutes; you need at least 18 correct. The test is in Uzbek or Russian, and also Karakalpak in Nukus.
  • Practical: an automated driving ground with no examiner in the car; sensors do the scoring. You pass with 99 penalty points or fewer. Category B is tested in a manual car.
  • Test areas: most regional centres have three: one for B, C and D, one for A, and one for the trailer categories BE, CE and DE.
  • Opening hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:00–18:00.

The exercises are covered in detail in our article on the practical exam.

How to book

  1. Prepare your documents. Passport or ID card, a form 083 medical certificate and confirmation that you completed practical training at a driving school. Since 2026, for categories A and B, the school generates this electronically and sends it to the exam centre itself. See our guide to the 083 medical certificate.
  2. Register at cabinet.yim.uz. Enter your passport or ID details, confirm your phone number by SMS and upload your documents.
  3. Pay and choose a branch, date and time. You can pay by UzCard or Humo card, through Payme or Click, or in cash at the centre.
  4. Wait for the check. Applications are reviewed within 24 hours on working days.
  5. On exam day, bring the original documents. You get each stage's result by SMS.

What it costs

Prices are the same at every centre. As of October 2026, according to the operator's public offer:

Service Price
Theory, first attempt 1,500,000 soum
Practical, paid on the day you pass theory 1,500,000 soum
Practical, paid on another day 1,600,000 soum
Each retake of theory or practical 1,600,000 soum
State fee for issuing the licence (paid separately) 0.7 BCV (base calculation value)

These prices have applied since 6 January 2026. Before that, an exam cost 1 million soum and a retake 1.2 million. Fees are not refunded, whatever the result. For a full budget including driving school, see how much a driving licence costs.

Planning the day if you live in a district

For learners from the districts, the hardest part is usually the journey, not the exam. Many centres are outside the town limits, and the nearest bus stop can be 2–3 km away, so allow for a taxi for the last stretch.

  • Take theory and the practical in one trip. You can go straight to the practical after passing theory. That saves a journey and 100,000 soum on the practical fee.
  • Book a morning slot. If anything goes wrong on the road, you'll have time in hand. Under the offer, arriving late without a documented valid reason counts as the service having been provided.
  • Practise on a similar layout. Some centres have private training grounds nearby with similar exercises. They're listed on each region's page in the driving grounds section. An hour or two there the day before takes away half the nerves.
  • Keep the deadlines in mind. A theory pass is valid for two months. You can retake any stage no sooner than 7 days later. If the centre is far away, plan a possible second trip from the start.
  • The certificate lasts a year. After passing both exams you get a certificate, and the details go automatically to the Interior Ministry and public service centres. You then apply for the licence on my.gov.uz or at a public service centre.

What to bring on exam day

  • Your original passport or ID card: without it you won't be admitted.
  • Your 083 medical certificate and training completion document, in case the school hasn't sent the confirmation electronically. Check with the school the day before.
  • The phone with the number you booked with: results are sent there.
  • A card or cash if you'll pay for the practical on site after theory.
  • Water and a snack: there can be a wait between theory and the practical test.
  • Comfortable shoes with thin soles. Pedals are harder to feel in flip-flops or heels.

Choose a driving school with the centre in mind

A driving school in your district prepares you for the centre you'll actually go to. A good school knows that centre's layout, takes students for a practice visit and tells you where people lose points. Ask about this before paying. Schools by region are in the driving school catalogue, for example in Samarkand.

If you're not sure where to start, leave a request through the school matching form. Tell us your region and district, and we'll suggest schools nearby.

FAQ

How many driving exam centres are there in Uzbekistan?

As of October 2026, 14: one in each region, one in Tashkent city and one in Karakalpakstan. A single operator runs them all, and bookings for every centre go through cabinet.yim.uz.

Can I take the exam outside my region?

You choose the branch when you book. Until November 2025, for example, people from Surkhandarya travelled to Karshi because their region had no centre. If in doubt, check with the operator's call centre.

How much does the exam cost in the regions?

The same as in Tashkent. As of October 2026, theory is 1.5 million soum, and the practical test is 1.5 million if paid on the day you pass theory, otherwise 1.6 million. Each retake is 1.6 million.

Can I take theory and the practical test on the same day?

Yes: theory first, then the practical. For people travelling from a district it's convenient: one trip, and the practical costs 1.5 million if paid on the day you pass theory.

What happens if I'm late for the exam?

Under the operator's public offer, missing your slot without a documented valid reason counts as the service having been provided, and there's no refund. Leave plenty of time.
