The Practical Driving Test at the Driving Ground: Exercises, Scoring

Roadmap · 8 min · Updated: 16 October 2026

#12

In short: the practical test takes place on a closed, automated driving ground, in a car fitted with sensors and cameras. There is no inspector in the passenger seat: the system scores every exercise and shows the result for each element on a display. Category B has twelve elements, from the start to the emergency stop. A retake is possible after at least 7 days, and everything must be done within two months of passing the theory test.

How the driving ground works

Requirements for the driving ground and the practical test procedure are set out in Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 408 of 31 May 2018 (as amended to October 2026). An automated driving ground is a closed site, separate from public roads, with signs, traffic lights and road markings. Sensors built into it record where the car is and how you perform each element, and everything is watched from a control room.

The test car carries a data link, sensors, a results display and a camera recording 360 degrees inside the cabin, with the footage sent to the control room. Results cannot be changed by hand. If the driving ground develops a fault, the test is stopped and results of unfinished exercises are cancelled.

The route, meaning the order of exercises, is published on the exam centre's website and on boards at the site. Study it in advance, not in the queue. Centre addresses are listed under driving grounds and exam centres in Tashkent.

Category B exercises

For categories B, C and D the following elements are mandatory:

# Element Where people usually slip up
1 Start seat belt, indicator, smooth pull-away
2 Pedestrian crossing stopping if someone is on the crossing
3 Stop and hill start on the ramp stopping at the stop line, rolling back
4 90-degree turns wheels crossing the lines
5 Entering a box to turn round touching the boundaries, not fully inside
6 Junction with traffic lights going only on a green signal, stopping at the line
7 Slalom hitting the markers
8 Reverse parallel parking position inside the bay, touching the boundaries
9 Unregulated level crossing stopping before the crossing
10 Acceleration section building speed and changing gear
11 Emergency stop reaction time, stopping without skidding
12 Finish stopping inside the finish zone

Motorcycles (A and A1) have a different set: slalom, narrow lane, acceleration and braking, a semicircle and a corridor marked by cones, slow riding and a figure of eight. Trailer categories (BE, CE, DE) are tested on reversing to a loading platform, pulling away from it and reversing in a straight line through a corridor.

The exact penalty points for each error come from a methodology approved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The full table is not publicly available, and centres show their own version in a video briefing. Ask your driving school for the current table at your specific centre: instructors who take groups to the test know it. According to kun.uz and yuz.uz reports on the opening of regional centres, you pass if you collect no more than 99 penalty points.

Two more reference points from the Tashkent centre's exercise list (a 2022 document): speed on the driving ground is capped at 20 km/h with a 5 km/h tolerance, and at 40 km/h on the acceleration section. The route takes you through the junction with traffic lights several times, straight on, left and right, and category B parallel parking comes near the end.

The car: manual gearbox and preparation

Under the regulation for private exam centres, practical tests are taken in training cars with a manual gearbox. A centre employee checks the car before the test starts. Candidates with disabilities who have medical clearance to drive with restrictions are tested in a specially adapted car.

A practical tip: a week or two before the test, book two or three sessions with an instructor on a site where the car and markings resemble the exam ones. Reference points for parking and the box depend on the model. A learner who parks perfectly in their own Cobalt can miss in a different car simply because the mirrors sit differently. You can find an instructor for these sessions under instructors in Tashkent.

How the test runs

  1. Before the ground. You are only admitted after passing theory. The system sets the date and time automatically; check them in your account or on your exam sheet.
  2. Waiting. Centres usually have screens showing other candidates' runs. Watch where the car stops before the ramp and how it approaches the box, not other people's mistakes.
  3. Getting in. Adjust the seat, mirrors and belt before the start command. Nobody will rush you, and a badly set mirror costs more later.
  4. Driving. The order of exercises follows the centre's route plan, and the in-car display shows your result for each element. Drive calmly: on a driving ground, speed almost never helps and an extra second almost never hurts.
  5. Result. The system marks you as passed or failed, and the result also arrives by SMS. An exam sheet with a QR code is printed, and the result stays in the system for a year.

After passing both tests you receive a special certificate. For one year it serves as the basis for issuing your licence at a public services centre or a YHXB unit.

Where people most often fail

In the experience of instructors who take groups to the test, most attempts are lost on three elements:

  • The ramp. The car rolls back or stalls. The fix is practising the biting point with the handbrake. Details in hill starts in a manual car.
  • Parallel parking and the box. Touching a line or not getting fully in. Step-by-step technique in parallel parking and the garage exercise.
  • Small things at the start and the junction. A forgotten indicator, fastening the belt after moving off, crossing the stop line on red. These are frustrating, because they have nothing to do with driving skill.

The full list of fifteen typical errors is in mistakes that fail the practical test.

Cost and retakes

Private centres set their own price for the practical test, and each attempt is paid in advance. Under the public offer of the unified exam centres' operator (checked in October 2026), a first attempt costs 1.5 million soum if paid on the day you pass theory (that price is held for two months) and 1.6 million soum if paid on another day. Each retake costs 1.6 million soum. At YHXB units the fee is 10% of the base calculation unit (BCU) for the first attempt and 15% for each further one: 44,000 and 66,000 soum with the BCU at 440,000 soum. Fees are not refunded whatever the result.

You can retake the practical test after at least 7 calendar days. Keep the two-month theory window in mind: if you have not passed the practical within two months, you sit the theory test again too.

What to do in advance

  • Look at the driving ground plan on the centre's website and run through it in your head two or three times.
  • Practise the ramp, the box and parallel parking until they work 9 times out of 10.
  • Bring your passport or ID card and your exam sheet.
  • Arrive early and keep the day free: the queue for the driving ground can be long.

How well you do on the driving ground depends on where and in what car you learned. If you are choosing a school, look at category B schools in Tashkent that have their own driving ground. If you would rather not search yourself, leave a request for driving school matching and we will suggest options near you.

FAQ

Does the practical test include driving in city traffic?

Under the regulation in force as of October 2026, the practical test for all categories takes place on an automated driving ground: a closed site separated from public roads. The rules contain no separate city route.

Which exercises are in the category B test?

Start, pedestrian crossing, stop and hill start on a ramp, 90-degree turns, entering a box to turn round, a junction with traffic lights, slalom, reverse parallel parking, an unregulated level crossing, an acceleration section, an emergency stop and the finish.

Can I take the practical test in an automatic?

The regulation for private exam centres provides for training cars with a manual gearbox. If you only learned in an automatic, ask your exam centre which cars it currently uses.

How soon can I retake the practical test?

No sooner than 7 days after a failed attempt. Those seven days do not extend your theory pass: you have two months in total from the day you passed the theory test.
