In short: under the Cabinet resolution you can retake theory as early as the next working day (although the unified exam centres' offer still says 7 days), and the practical test after at least 7 calendar days. There is no limit on attempts, but each is paid separately and fees are not refunded. The key deadline is two months: after passing theory you must pass the practical within that time, or sit theory again.

Retake deadlines

Deadlines are set by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 408 of 31 May 2018. As amended by Resolution No. 125 of 30 March 2026, in force since 1 April 2026, the rules are:

Situation When you retake What matters
Failed theory next working day (7 days under the centres' offer) no practical without a theory pass
Passed theory, failed practical after at least 7 calendar days theory pass stands, but only for two months
Two months passed, no practical pass theory again, then practical the old theory pass is cancelled
Passed both nothing to retake the special certificate is valid for a year for licence issue

If you fail theory on a Friday, the next working day is Monday, allowing for weekends and public holidays. Until April 2026 a theory retake was only possible after 7 days.

An important caveat: the public offer of AUTODRIVER STUDY LLC, the operator of the unified exam centres (checked in October 2026), still says any failed exam can be retaken no sooner than 7 days later. Until the offer is updated, the centre may schedule theory retakes on that basis. When planning, allow a week and confirm the date with the call centre or in your online account.

Retakes follow the same route as the first attempt: at a YHXB unit or at the private exam centre where you are registered. Previous results are stored electronically, and your identity and payment are checked again on arrival.

How many attempts you get

There is no cap. The administrative regulation states plainly that the number of theory retakes is unlimited, and no limit is set for the practical either. The real constraints are time and money. A two-month window with a week between attempts allows roughly seven or eight tries, but if you have reached a third, stop and work out what is going wrong.

What a retake costs

Private centres set their own prices, and a retake usually costs more than a first attempt. Under the public offer of the unified exam centres' operator (checked in October 2026; rates in force since 6 January 2026):

Attempt Theory Practical
First 1.5 million soum 1.5 million soum if paid on the day you pass theory, otherwise 1.6 million
Each retake 1.6 million soum 1.6 million soum

Check the centre's public offer before paying, as prices change.

At YHXB units, where state rates apply, the fee is tied to the base calculation unit (BCU): 10% of the BCU for the first attempt and 15% for each retake. With the BCU at 440,000 soum (from 1 September 2026), that is 44,000 and 66,000 soum per test. Members of families on the social register and people with Group I or II disabilities get 50–75% off.

Exam fees are never refunded, whatever the result. If you miss the slot or arrive late without a valid reason, the attempt counts as used. With a valid, documented reason such as a sick note, the payment stands and you can sit the test later. A booked slot can only be moved to a later date, and no later than 24 hours before the test.

Budget for extra lessons too. As of late 2025, an hour of practice with an instructor in Tashkent cost from 100,000 soum, and 200,000–250,000 in newer cars. Two or three hours before a practical retake usually cost less than another failed attempt.

A worked example

A typical Tashkent case: theory passed first time, practical on the second attempt. At the offer's rates the tests come to 1.5 + 1.5 + 1.6 = 4.6 million soum if the first practical is paid on theory day, or 4.7 million otherwise. Add two hours with an instructor between attempts (about 200,000–300,000) and a week's wait. If the second practical also fails, each further attempt adds another 1.6 million, and your two-month theory window keeps shrinking. So when you budget for a licence, allow for at least one retake, however confident you feel.

After failing theory

  1. Do not walk straight out. The screen shows which questions you got wrong after the test. Remember the topics or write them down as soon as you leave.
  2. Cover two or three topics per evening. The goal is not to work through the whole bank again but to close specific gaps.
  3. Test yourself against the clock. 20 questions in 25 minutes. If you regularly score under 19, put the retake off for a couple of days.

The test format and common traps are covered in the driving theory test.

After failing the practical

The week between attempts is time to fix the error, not just to wait.

  • Pin down the element. The in-car display shows your result for each exercise; remember where it went wrong.
  • Book two or three sessions on a practice ground. Ideally in the same model as the exam car. You can find an instructor for one-off sessions under instructors in Tashkent.
  • Bank the free points. Belt on before moving, indicator every time you pull away, a full stop at the stop line. More people fail on these than you would think.
  • Go over the course plan again. Many lose points simply because they forget the order of exercises and get flustered.

The exercises are explained in the practical test at the driving ground, and fifteen common errors are listed in mistakes that fail the practical test. Exam ground addresses are under driving grounds in Tashkent.

When retakes become a pattern

When someone fails the practical a third time in a row, the issue is almost never nerves; it is preparation. Too few hours on a practice ground, a school car that differs from the exam car, an instructor who never drilled the specific elements. In that case 5–6 hours with a different instructor cost less than a fourth attempt.

Drivers whose licence was revoked are a separate case. Once the ban ends they must complete a full driving school course, and their theory test is harder: 50 questions in 45 minutes, with at least 46 correct.

If weak preparation is the cause, switching school or instructor is the simplest fix. Browse driving schools in Tashkent or leave a request for driving school matching, and we will help you find a school near you with solid practice on a driving ground.

FAQ

How soon can I retake the theory test?

Under the Cabinet resolution as amended on 30 March 2026, a theory retake is held on the next working day. However, the public offer of the unified exam centres' operator, as of October 2026, still states a 7-day gap for any retake, so confirm the exact date with your centre.

How soon can I retake the practical test?

No sooner than 7 calendar days after a failed attempt. The system schedules the next attempt automatically.

How many times can I retake?

The rules set no limit on attempts, but each one is paid separately. The real limit is time: the practical must be passed within two months of passing theory.

Do I lose my theory pass if I fail the practical?

No, as long as you stay within two months of passing theory. If the practical is not passed within two months, you sit theory again. The week's wait between attempts does not extend this window.

Do I get a refund if I miss my test?

If you miss it or arrive late without a valid reason, the service counts as delivered and nothing is refunded. With an illness or another documented reason, the payment stands and you are allowed to sit the test later.
