Morning, Evening or Weekend: Choosing a Time for Driving Lessons

07:00 / 19:00

In short: match lesson times to your stage of learning. At the start, weekend mornings and weekdays from 10 am to noon, when the city is calmer. Mid-course, normal daytime traffic. Close to the exam, a couple of lessons at rush hour and after dark. The best rhythm is two or three lessons a week of 1.5 to 2 hours.

Why lesson timing matters more than you think

Students usually choose a time for one reason: that is when they are free. Fair enough, but it is worth considering two more things. First, what the roads are like at that hour. Second, what state you will be in. A 7 pm lesson after a working day and a 10 am lesson on Saturday are different lessons, even on the same route.

Comparing the options

Time Pros Cons Best for
Early weekday morning (before 8:00) Few cars, cool in summer Morning rush builds quickly; early starts are hard for many People who start work at 9 or 10
Weekdays, 10:00–12:00 Calm traffic, daylight, a fresh mind Awkward for office workers Students, parents after the school run, flexible schedules
Weekdays, 12:00–16:00 Moderate traffic Hot in summer, post-lunch drowsiness Learners whose instructor's car has air conditioning
Weekday evenings (after 17:00) Fits after work, real traffic Rush hour, fatigue, dark in winter Experienced learners in the final stage
Weekend mornings The emptiest streets of the week Popular, slots go early First lessons and working learners
Weekend evenings Convenient timing Busy around shopping centres and leisure spots Practising parking in real conditions

A schedule by stage

Your lesson times should change as your skills grow.

Stage 1. Training ground and quiet streets

Spend the first four to six lessons where there is no pressure from traffic: a training ground or the inner roads of a residential area. Weekend mornings or weekday mornings work best. The aim is to master steering, pedals, pulling away and stopping without worrying about cars behind you.

Stage 2. Normal city traffic

Once the basics happen without thinking, move to ordinary streets in your district on weekday afternoons. This is where you practise traffic lights, lane changes and Tashkent's U-turns. Which districts and streets to choose at each step is covered in driving in Tashkent as a beginner.

Stage 3. Harder conditions

Two or three weeks before the exam, add:

  • one or two lessons in the evening rush hour, to get used to dense traffic and patience in jams;
  • one or two lessons after dark;
  • practice of the exam exercises at the same time of day as your exam, if you already know it.

How often to train

Frequency matters more than total hours. In practice, two or three lessons a week of 1.5 to 2 hours each work best.

  • One lesson a week. The first 20–30 minutes of every lesson go on remembering the last one. The course drags on.
  • Two or three lessons a week. The skill does not cool off, and there is time between lessons to rest and think over mistakes.
  • Two to three hours every day. Fast, but fatigue builds by the end of the week, attention drops and mistakes repeat. Only suitable for an intensive course if you feel well.

How many hours of practice you need overall depends on the person. See how many hours of practice a beginner needs and, for overall course length, how long driving school takes.

The season matters too

  • Summer. In July and August the car gets very hot after midday and concentration suffers. Book mornings or late afternoons and check that the training car's air conditioning works.
  • Winter. In December it gets dark in Tashkent around 5 pm, so an after-work lesson will be in the dark. That is extra load for a beginner; move early lessons to weekends.
  • September. Morning traffic rises noticeably when the school year starts. If you plan morning lessons, shift them to after 9:30.
  • Ramadan. Many instructors and learners change their routines, and roads get busier before iftar. Agree convenient hours with your instructor in advance.

If you work or have children

The most common situations among learners, and what usually works:

  • A 9-to-6 job. Saturday morning plus one early weekday morning. Evening lessons only in the final stage.
  • Young children or the school run. The 9:30 to noon window on weekdays. Ask the instructor to collect you from home so you do not lose time travelling.
  • Shift work. Agree a flexible schedule a week ahead with your instructor rather than fixed days.
  • University. Gaps between classes or a day without lectures. Bear in mind that many Tashkent universities start early, and morning traffic around them is heavy.

Many women choose a female instructor partly because it is easier to agree a convenient schedule close to home. Schools offering this are listed under driving schools for women in Tashkent.

Questions to ask your instructor about scheduling

Before paying for the course, check:

  1. Which days and hours the instructor works and how slots are booked.
  2. How rescheduling works and how much notice is needed.
  3. Whether the instructor picks you up from home or work, and whether that time counts as lesson time.
  4. Whether weekend lessons are available and cost the same.
  5. Whether you can have a few lessons after dark and at rush hour before the exam.

You can find instructors working in your district at hours that suit you in the Tashkent instructors directory or among Tashkent driving schools.

Matched to your schedule

FAQ

What is the best time for driving lessons?

For the first lessons, weekend mornings or weekdays from about 10 am to noon, when streets are calmer. Closer to the exam, add lessons in heavier traffic so you get used to real conditions.

How many lessons a week should I take?

Usually two or three lessons a week of 1.5 to 2 hours each. With one lesson a week much of the time goes on recovering the skill, while long daily lessons quickly wear you out.

Can I learn only at weekends?

You can, but the course will take longer, and a five-day gap between lessons slows progress. If possible, add at least one short weekday lesson.

Should I take lessons in the dark?

A few evening lessons are useful for everyone: headlights, glare and hard-to-see pedestrians are a skill of their own. But your first lessons are best in daylight.
